What is a chiropractor?

Chiropractors are Primary Care physicians that care for both the musculoskeletal and nervous systems of the body. Through specific, gentle adjustments, the nervous system is optimized, increasing function of all organs and joints in the body! This allows the body to better adapt to its environment and heal, resolving aches, pains, and many other issues.

Are there chiropractic adjustment side effects?

Chiropractic care often results in side effects including reduced inflammation and pain, a reduction in stress levels, and a happier, healthier life. After an adjustment, there might be some soreness and inflammation involved as scar tissue is getting broken up: both are normal, healing processes that happen as the body begins to move again the way it should.

How many chiropractic sessions do you need?

There are many approaches to healing the body. Chiropractic care is a conservative form of treatment that lets the body heal itself, which takes consistency and time. A single adjustment can have life-changing effects, but we recommend initial care begins with regular treatments for the first 7-8 weeks to build momentum within the body on the path to wellness.

Our services are always voluntary and ultimately, you the patient decide how often and for how long you need to be seen. Dr. Moeller and Dr. Cali will give their best recommendations for care to get you out of pain as well as to keep this and other issues from coming back.

Why should you choose your office?

Dr. Moeller is highly experienced with over 3.5 decades of practice serving his community as a chiropractor. Dr. Cali is a new doctor of chiropractic who is very ambitious and highly trained in all the latest techniques and principles. Together, they manage a very wide and dynamic scale of patient cases that other chiropractors might turn away.

Forest Park Chiropractic also houses and offers many modalities and services not found in other offices, including PEMF, Acupuncture, Spinal Decompression, Intersegments traction and electrostimulation therapy, and Instrument-Assisted myofascial Release technique. All of these services greatly compliment chiropractic and rapidly speed the rate of healing and recovery.

Can I get chiropractic care during pregnancy?

Pregnancy is one of the best times to get adjusted! The body undergoes many changes during pregnancy. Under normal, ideal circumstances, the body is able to adapt to these changes so that life carries on as normal. Often, however, our bodies are not in a state of wellness; unbalanced hormonal levels, joint issues, prior medical history, etc. are all problems that prevent pregnant momma’s body from adapting like is should. Regular Chiropractic treatment will ease these transitions, taking away stress and pain!

Are chiropractic adjustments safe?

We would like to acknowledge that there is a public stigma about how scary and dangerous chiropractic adjustments are. We want to assure you with all the confidence of thoroughly researched studies and data analysis that chiropractic adjustments are extremely safe. When applied correctly and specifically, an adjustment will do nothing but help the body to heal.

There is a reason malpractice insurance for chiropractors is one of the cheapest amongst physicians practicing in healthcare by thousands of dollars – insurance companies do their own data analysis and safer treatments cost less to insure. It’s as simple as that!

Why do adjustments sometimes make a popping sound?

That ‘popping’ sound is called a cavitation and is a normal physiological response. When a joint is moved rapidly, it can release gas trapped in the joint – that gas leaving the joint is what makes the sound. With a little bit of time, that gas in the joint will reaccumulate.

Often, an adjustment will produce a cavitation, but a good adjustment can and often happens without that popping sound occurring at all!

Are all patients adjusted the same way?

Nope! An analysis is performed every visit you come in and care is specialized to your specific presentation and needs to get the best results and outcomes.

Will a chiropractic adjustment completely remove back pain?

Can I learn to adjust myself?

It is possible to get a popping sound that might feel good in the moment, but this isn’t a true adjustment. When there is an issue in the back or really any joint, the bones involved in the issue become ‘fixed,’ meaning they don’t move like they should, leading to swelling, an inability to heal, and ultimately pain. The joints close but not directly involved in the problem become hypermobile in an attempt to compensate for this lack of motion – when you adjust yourself, it is these joints that end up making the popping sound, meaning it won’t lead to the health results you are searching for.

Will I be required to remove my clothing at my appointment?

No, at Forest Park Chiropractic you will keep your clothes on for all adjustments. There might be a few instances when the doctor will ask you to remove a jacket, hoodie, necklace, watch, or other piece of jewelry that could interfere with proper analysis of your spine.

If you elect to have acupuncture to accompany your chiropractic care, there might be instances where clothing must be removed to more appropriately treat the area needed. In these instances, a gown will be provided to be worn.

Is chiropractic treatment appropriate for children?

Chiropractic care is absolutely amazing for children and infants! Many of the issues that we treat adults for are actually issues that developed from some injury as a child that never healed properly or even from the traumatic birthing process. The sooner these issues are addressed, the fewer problems your kids will have in the future!

Both Dr. Cali and Dr. Moeller love treating the little ones and they’re always welcome in our office even if not getting adjusted that day. Chiropractic care for infants and children is extremely gentle and effective, the young body responds much quicker to care than adults normally will as well.

There are many issues that chiropractic for infants and children can help as well, including constipation and colic, bed wetting, Latching issues, ear infections, allergies, and more!

What type of education and training do chiropractors have?

Chiropractors undergo a rigorous 4 year program that includes 400+ Credit hours of classwork to educate them on all the principles needed to be a independently functioning Primary Care physician. This is the same course load as any MD or DO take as well, but many more of their class hours are focused on pharmacology whereas Chiropractors spend more time focusing on anatomy, Neurology, and biomechanics. Part of this education includes many hours spent in clinicals seeing patients and getting real hands-on experience before ever graduating.
